This has been a boring Israeli election campaign, with few overarching policy debates and no major surprises. The campaign has mainly been about Netanyahu’s character, with everybody taking pot shots at his “flaws,” most notably Shimon Peres, Ehud Olmert, Yuval Diskin, Amos Oz, and Barack Obama.

Pundits have got the Naftali Bennett story wrong. The rise of HaBayit Hayehudi is not really about nationalist politics. It is more a social-communal awakening, a re-emergence of the Religious Zionist tribe, with a younger a more self-confident voice.
